levellers 18th december brixton academy

the 20th aniversary of Levelling the land could not be missed, they played the album and we didn't have to listen to any of the latter stuff which never really worked for me....glad I didn't miss this. Dreadzone were brilliant too.

hopefully will see as many next year, this has been the most bands I have seen in a year since 2001....could be habit forming

wolfsbane london 1st december

after many many years I finally got round to seeing wolfsbane...and they were brilliant

obsidian and recycled copper leaf pendant

cut from old copper pipe and wire, this pendant has been shaped to appear like autumn leaves and berries, the berries are obsidian beads. The waxed cotton cord can be adjusted from 16 inched to 32inches and the pendant is about two inches long.

movember

Welcome 2 My Nightmare

Never really been a huge Alice Cooper fan, my first Alice record was Trash and while I have added a few others to the collection its not what you would call a major investment. now don't get me wrong, its not a dislike, and I will always make time to listen to any interviews he does that come my way.

A couple of months ago my daughter announced that she wanted to see him when he played London this year,she's nearly eighteen and she wanted to go with her boyfriend. I was very tempted to go with them but did not want to be "gooseberry", however boyfriends mother won't let him go(??? he is eighteen, why not???). So going I am.

About three weeks ago Mark over at heavy metal time machine held a competition to win welcome 2 my nightmare and being the lucky sod I am it is now in my grubby little mitts.

It was not quite what I expected but its a very enjoyable album,each song in a different style of music, more like the soundtrack to a show but then that is what it is I suppose. I am now getting quite excited about seeing Alice next saturday, dispraportionatey so.

As a side note I will also be seeing Wolfsbane and the Levellers in december, this is the busiest I've been for gigs in about ten years

more stuff

I have a fasination with decay, corrosion, things aging and weathering. I know that I am not orrigional but I wanted to make someting wearble out of something that, while I find it appealing, nobody would even take a second look at. Even though most of what I make is using discarded copper wire or pipe nothing ages like iron.Here is the first project, old nails set in sterling silver.

I made two pairs of these, one for my sister and one for my daughter, then over the last few day I have made these.

The first pendant is made from a pice of glass found where an old victorian land fill site is washing out into the Thames, there are whole stretches of beach made up of broken glass and crockery, here I found all sorts like an old spectacle lens, dentures, brass door knobs and even an old helmet.

The second is made from two bits of corroded old iron that I found in the road, bound together with silver plated wire.

fifteen? is that normal? with an almost equal number of conditioners, then face scrubs, foot scrubs, warming exfoliating arse scrubs, body butter? body polish.... what the fuck is body polish? I haven't noticed her shinier than normal...she doesn't come over to me and say "well, am I shiny or what" and this is a list of stuff I can name. At least six different razors in the bathroom, my son and I can claim one each.

cut from a piece of copper given to me by my brother inlaw.It was annealed and cut into three pieces, then the design was worked in wire, taped onto the copper then beaten until its impressed into the metal. The earrings are hung on silver plated hooks and the pendant on adjustable waxed cotton.

It may not appeal to everybody but I like the scarred and used look old copper has,I could spend time polishing or hammering it out but it looses personality when you do that.

new model army at the forum 03.12.10

once again my single trip to see a band this year has been New Model Army, this time I took both my older children, it was my sons first gig and my daughters second(the first also being nma). Friday was a worrying day what with the snow and general travel chaos across the country but we made it there and made it back without any major hassles.

recycling found copper

This is made from an old copper electrical contact I found while crossing the round, it was on a traffic island with one of those illuminated bollards. the copper had this wonderful green patina but because I could not figure a way of keeping it and making the pendant wearable it had to go. The pendant is on waxed cotton which can be adjusted to desired length.

celtic earrings

I don't like the term "celtic" it's used to label things that really are something else with an equally ancient and rich tradition, but it is a convenient label. This simple design was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be with my work area now littered with bits of coiled copper wire.

In the picture above you can just make out a cat working its way up the tree towards a crow that is sat squawking at the top. The cat got about two thirds of the way up when it realised the bird was almost as big as itself and really didn't give a shit about the cat, the poor moggy then decided discretion was the better' and made its way back down.
